About the Project

This R4CR project proposal focuses on the ‘Recess Improvement Project’, namely to repaint the basketball court (including repair of the base layer), to upgrade the "Cozy Retreat" play area and to improve and create floor games.
The main goal is to enhance the ‘recess experience‘ for the students at the school facility which has extremely limited space and/or facilities for recess and recreational activities. The repainted basketball court will also serve to enhance the quality and the experience of the physical education classes for both the cycle 1 as well as the cycle 2 students. All students will benefit from this upgrade, but it is especially the group of vulnerable students that will benefit most.

About the Organization

The Foundation Catholic Education St. Maarten (SKOS) forms part of the education sector. It is the largest subsidized School Board on Sint Maarten, comprising of 6 primary schools and 1 high school. The student count combined at all seven schools is currently 1,625 students. The Foundation offers an affordable afterschool program which is executed mainly in conjunction with the 'Stichting Ervaringsgericht Onderwijs St. Maarten'. That program currently caters to a total of 270 students. This specific project focuses on the St. Joseph School, one of the Foundation's Catholic schools which is located in the heart of Philipsburg.
