About the Project

The Youth Council caters to some 500 children and young adults per month, through varying different projects and programs. The current facilities have reached the end of their life cycle and are in need of replacement to guarantee safe and efficient operations.

The main kitchen will be refurbished and the old appliances will be replaced with energy efficient models. The exterior staircase (which was damaged by hurricane Irma) will be repaired and the building will be repainted.

About the Organization

The objective of the SYC is to promote the interests of the Youth of St. Maarten in the broadest sense of the word. This is done by:

  • Promoting cooperation and unity between the Youth and Youth Organizations on St. Maarten;
  • Establishing, stimulating and maintaining relationships with other organizations and institutions, private or governmental, foreign, national or local and supporting all initiatives favorable to youth.
  • Organizing meetings, assemblies, workshops, seminars, lectures and other types of educational, cultural and socio-cultural events.

The SYC owns and operates the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center in St. Peters. The Association’s flagship programs include the STAR After School Program and the Sint Maarten Youth Parliament. They are also actively engaged in EU-funded youth exchanges and training for youth leaders, under the Erasmus+ Youth Funds.
