About the Project

A wheelchair bus will be purchased to transport the elderly and physically/mentally challenged serving the following purposes:

  • Enable the transportation of its clients to medical services and therapy sessions
  • Eradicate and battle loneliness
  • Enhance the quality of life for its clients through mobility

The current bus was heavily damaged during hurricane Irma. With many repairs and extensive maintenance the foundation was able to extend the use of the bus with a few years. However this bus, which serves two clients, has reached the stage where it has to be replaced. The new bus, which has space for four wheelchairs, costs $ 74,960. With the co-financing of Samenwerkende Fondsen Cariben and the generous discount by car dealer ‘Real Auto’, Helping Hands Foundation will be able to serve its clients who are dependent on the wheelchair bus facilities in the upcoming years.

About the Organization

HHF has been the pioneer organization for responding to needs of the elderly, disabled and mentally challenged for 20+ years on St. Maarten. By providing transportation these target groups are more mobile and independent and have the opportunity to socialize and have access to medical services and recreational activities.
