About the Project

Plastic waste is a major problem on the island and has gotten worse since hurricane Irma. Local efforts to recycle and reuse plastics are not plentiful, but more efforts are being made to start separating the collection of garbage and have these disposed of in a more sustainable manner. This project has the confirmed support of many different CSOs and businesses who will contribute in cash or kind, significantly increasing the chances of sustainability. The grant will be used to purchase the necessary extruder, various molds and provide technical support and supplies for the starting up of a social recycling workspace.EPIC will collect plastic bottle caps from schools via an awareness program and transform this waste plastic into usable trinkets, and at a later stage; beams for, amongst others, outdoor benches. The goal is to recycle 600kg of plastics by the end of the project. On average 300 children from different schools will be involved in the awareness program, collection and recycling of the plastic bottle caps and other materials.
