About the Project

The National Institute of Arts (NIA) has developed into the island’s premier institute for arts over the last 10 years. This project is built on the concept of “Total Theatre” in which the students are exposed to the full range of art forms in addition to counseling session to help them heal from and be mentally prepared for future calamities such as hurricanes. The three main pillars of this project are:

  1. Assists participants with physical and socio-emotional recovery and resilience
  2. Use of different art forms: drawing/painting, music, theatre, dance, movement, spoken word, stagecraft to create rounded individuals. Use different settings for art expressions: performances, field trips, exchange programs, workshops etc.
  3. Program Development: train-the-trainer program to ensure that the program and the benefits can reach a larger audience.

About the Organization

NIA is an interdisciplinary Arts Institution with the purpose of the foundation being to operate a nationally recognized institution of the performing and visual arts inclusive gymnastics and to guide the preservation, training, development and promotion of these art forms.

NIA engages in developing curricula, rendering performances, producing programs, organizing lectures, workshops and other types of meetings and events connected with the objectives.
